The Hunter Cancer Hub is based in the Canteen office in Newcastle and is an exciting new project, launched in early 2022 that will act as the central point between those who are impacted by cancer and support services. The Hunter Cancer Hub (HCH) Office Administration Volunteer will play a pivotal role in supporting families and individuals who approach The Hub for support.

We are currently looking for Parent Peer Volunteers to facilitate family peer support groups to parents and families in the following areas: Mandurah, Fremantle, Thornlie, East Perth & Midland.

MUST BE A PARENT OF A CHILD WHO HAS OR HAD DRUG AND ALCOHOL ISSUES. Supporting and mentoring parents of children with drug and alcohol issues.

Approved volunteers agree to provide mentoring and friendship to a young person between the ages of 7 and 17. They commit to spending quality time with a carefully selected young person from a vulnerable or disadvantaged background for approximately 2 hours per fortnight for a period of 12 months. You will not be sitting in an office all day but going out to meet mentees.

Canteen, delivers overnight programs, workshops and recreational and social events that bring young people together to build peer relationships. As a Psychosocial Support volunteer, your role will be to provide effective psychosocial support and information to young people during programs and specifically through the facilitation and delivery of manualised group work content on overnight programs.

The Family Drug Helpline provides information, support and referrals to people who have someone in their life using alcohol or other drugs. The helpline is staffed by volunteers. THIS IS A PEER SUPORT ROLE, filled by people who have personal experience of being impacted by someone’s substance use. This lived experience is the key selection criteria.

The Pilbara RYDE Program provides young people (16-25 years) who live, work or study in the City of Karratha with the opportunity to complete their 50 hours of supervised driving with a Volunteer Driving Mentor. Volunteering as a Driving Mentor may offer a rewarding experience through sharing tangible skills which serve to directly assist disadvantaged young people.

Volunteer Driving Mentors are required to supervise 16 to 24 Year olds to gain their 100 hours required for them to get their P Licence. Supervisor training and vehicles supplied. Working with disengaged youth with experience of limited adult support network. Volunteers are required for transporting of Young People and Children in care. Transporting will include from the Blair Athol DCP office to other Family contact locations, eg schools and libraries. Transporting of the children is with use of government vehicles.
