Hooded Plovers are small coastal shorebirds. Listed as vulnerable nationally, there are less than 800 of these birds in South Australia with only 22 breeding pairs found on the Fleurieu Peninsula. There are multiple ways that you can assist to protect these birds. Fleurieu Hoodie Helpers are needed to monitor a given pair of birds on a particular beach and report sightings of bird behaviour.

You don't need to have a lot of computer knowledge to be successful within this role. Training is readily available and it's easy to learn. It will involve reading messages and creating posts and replying to customers. Search and Rescue involves being provided with a list of what is needed and Lost dogs of Adelaide have a supplier to help out.

This dynamic team install wildlife and possum boxes for our Wildlife Carers. The boxes in which we release our wildlife / possums are made of 19mm pine to provide the best insulation during our hotter summers but are therefore 6.5kg plus wildlife weight (up to 2kg). Ladders and harnesses are used to ensure safety for our installation team and training in best practice WH&S is also provided.

The Policy Writer is member of the SOWFI Governance and Policy Sub-Committee. The position works together with the Sub-Committee and the Board Secretary to support the preparation of both internal and public facing documents, including organisational policies, public facing position statements, responses to government inquiries, and other documents which advocate for the conservation, rescue and rehabilitation of native wildlife in line with SOWFI’s objectives.
