🛩️ Join Us in Preserving Aviation History! 🛩️ Do you have a passion for aviation and a desire to contribute to the preservation of history? The Far North Queensland Aviation Museum invites you to become a valued volunteer and help develop Mareeba's premier community-based aviation museum.

We need volunteers to assist our Collection Manager with the on-going preservation of the Cairns’ important Chinese heritage which includes unique artefacts from the nationally significant Cairns Lit Sung Goong Temple Collection.

If you enjoy engaging with primary school children and have a knack for storytelling, we would love to have you as part of our Museum Schools Team. You will be working with a small team in a supervised, supported environment. You don’t need to be a teacher – a delight in talking with kids is the main skill we are seeking. Our Schools Team lead school activities in the Museum, as well as running off-site programs through our History on the Move trailer. Volunteers must be vaccinated.

The Receptionist is the first point of contact for visitors, so this role requires a well presented individual, with good communication and interpersonal skills. Tasks include ticket and retail sales, visitor greeting, orientation and assistance, telephone inquiries and direction. The Museum is open Monday to Saturday, and two receptionists are usually rostered to work together. Volunteers must be vaccinated.

The Bradman Museum shop sells a curated selection of new and vintage collectables, books, sport apparel, mementos, children’s toys and more. If you have experience in designing store layouts and visual merchandising displays to maximise customer experience and sales potential, we’d love to learn from you. We also have an online store front which we are in the process of redesigning on top of doing a merchandising refresh with brand-new branding thanks to our design partners.

Do you know your way around the socials and have experience in marketing? We are looking for someone to assist our team in this space. Ideally, you could help us put together a basic social media marketing plan and work with our graphics team to develop a range of social media templates. We are excited to be expanding the Sir Donald Bradman research library collection with a donation of a significant personal collection in 2024. We are looking for someone to assist with the organisation and cataloguing of this new collection. We are also looking for assistance with the establishment of research library loan partnerships and processes within our broader library network and research librarian services on an ad-hoc basis.

We are embarking on the digitisation of a large historical collection of photographs into the museum collection. This will involve organising, scanning and saving photographs from the archives, and carefully returning to archives. Get in touch if you would like to have a rare glimpse into history and a hand in making these memorial snapshots accessible to an international audience. This could be an ongoing opportunity.

Volunteers will help with ensuring that the BVHS Collection is managed and conserved in accordance with National Standards for Australian Museums and Galleries. The aim is to maintain the physical & electronic collection registers of Photographs and Objects within the museum and the machinery shed. We are gifted many items which need to be recorded so that they can be readily accessible when enquiries are made and when displays/exhibitions are being planned.

Port Elliot Railway Station are looking for Customer Service Volunteers to help out at their award winning historic railway station. The Customer Service role has two components - Ticket Sales and Souvenir Sales. Previous sales and customer service, cash register and EFTPOS terminal experience would be well regarded, but not essential. On the job training will be provided.

Front of House Volunteers provide a warm and friendly welcome for visitors to the Museum and also play a valuable role in maintaining Museum security during opening hours. They engage with visitors and share knowledge and enthusiasm for the Museum and Esperance history. This is a key role ensuring that the Museum is open on the publicised day.

Gardener required for Smirks Cottage and Heritage Site Monday or Wednesday - flexible hours between 8.30 am to 12.30 pm. We are happy for whatever time you can commit. General gardening, all tools supplied.

An onsite painter is needed at Albany's Historic Whaling Station. You may also work in the wildlife park, and you will assist the onsite maintenance team. 5 hours one day a week is required, and you will be paid $40 for your fuel costs. Onsite OH&S Training will be conducted.

An administration assistant is needed to support the General Manager and company secretary to maintain the important work and cultural significance of the Australian jazz museum. Must have experience in MS Office and be willing to train in the use of Salesforce. General maintenance of the museum when required and assisting with group tours.

We require a mature, experienced, business oriented and skilled grant writer and fundraiser to assist the museum with writing and submitting grant applications. Will also be required to source quotes, funding and grant opportunities and give advice and guidance to the committee.
