Modbury Hospital Guide Volunteers are based at the Hospital's main entrance and assist patients and visitors with directions to their destination. Guide Volunteers position suit someone who is interested in interacting with the public, able to deal with occasional stressful situations, and physically fit enough to stand and walk much of the shift. A Guide can be rostered Mon – Fri and shifts can vary from 4 hours to a full day. Training and induction are provided.

We are currently seeking friendly and compassionate volunteers to provide non-clinical patient support and to assist staff with a variety of tasks.

You will work with the staff and patients of the Lyell McEwin Hospital Diabetes Education Unit to ensure that patients and visitors needs are met, and the experience of the unit is effectively recorded for quality assurance, and improvement for future services.

The Lyell McEwin Hospital serves a community of people from diverse cultures and backgrounds. Some people may find the hospital difficult to navigate finding the ward or service they need. Guides are often the first face a visitor sees when entering the hospital and have the important role of greeting patients and visitors as they arrive.

Work with staff of the Short Stay Medical Unit to ensure that patients and visitors' needs are met, and the experience of staying on the ward is effectively recorded for quality assurance, and improvement for future services.

Volunteers in this role provide support and guidance to the visitors and staff of the Modbury Hospital Outpatients Department by greeting patients on arrival and directing patients to the required area.

Volunteers work in partnership with paid staff of the ward, under the supervision of Team Leader/NUM/Office Manager to enhance the quality of Care experience in a “non - clinical holistic way” for patients as well as the relatives and friends of the patients.

Volunteers bring a ‘non-clinical’ aspect of service to the Emergency Department which aims to provide support to those who are ill or confronting sudden trauma or loss.

The role of the biographer is to record the life stories, reflections, reviews of certain times or life events and tributes to loved ones. They need to be able to build rapport quickly, know how to get the best out of patients who might struggle telling their stories, have a good understanding of the palliative care philosophy, and present a legacy for the patient and their families to keep.
