Our steam tug Waratah built 1902 at Cockatoo Island badly needs help to maintain paintwork by removing and treating rust, then re-painting. Sydney Heritage Fleet is voluntary group dedicated to preserving, restoring and operating vessels representing our Maritime history. We own in addition to many smaller boats, the former VIP steam yacht Lady Hopetoun, ex-Moreton Bay pilot steamer John Oxley, and the mighty 1,000 passenger double-ended Sydney Harbour Ferry Kanangra

We are seeking volunteers to assist with handling donated goods in preparation for sales of low cost items to the general community. This involves sorting, pricing and customer service with general cleaning.

The services are required of a person to co-ordinate maintenance of the building exterior and interior and its immediate grounds. This will involve performance of some basic maintenance and gardening, as well as organising tradespeople and Council staff to carry out other maintenance activities.

Our current major project is the restoration to full ocean-going condition of John Oxley a former Moreton Bay pilot steamer, 760 tons. You, the volunteer will be a skilled welder and steel fabricator to aid in the final stages of hull restoration, particularly the forecastle.
