Our steam tug Waratah built 1902 at Cockatoo Island badly needs help to maintain paintwork by removing and treating rust, then re-painting. Sydney Heritage Fleet is voluntary group dedicated to preserving, restoring and operating vessels representing our Maritime history. We own in addition to many smaller boats, the former VIP steam yacht Lady Hopetoun, ex-Moreton Bay pilot steamer John Oxley, and the mighty 1,000 passenger double-ended Sydney Harbour Ferry Kanangra

The Japanese Film Festival (JFF) returns to Melbourne on 21 October – 3 November, and is seeking a passionate candidate to join the team as a Coordinator. This is an exciting opportunity to work behind-the-scenes for the JFF and gain valuable professional experience. Our current major project is the restoration to full ocean-going condition of John Oxley a former Moreton Bay pilot steamer, 760 tons. You, the volunteer will be a skilled welder and steel fabricator to aid in the final stages of hull restoration, particularly the forecastle. Your team leader is gentle giant whose welding surpasses marine standard for boiler work.
