SES is open to men and women with a reasonable degree of physical fitness and a passion to get involved within their community. When a natural disaster strikes or an emergency situation arises, DFES’s SES volunteers can be found providing a wide range of volunteer services to help the community.

Volunteer Now! Collie SES is a team of dedicated volunteers who respond to natural hazards such as storms, floods, cyclones, and earthquakes, & assist with land searches, & fire ground support. The Collie SES Unit are seeking new volunteers to work behind the scenes & assist the front-line crews. Support members are essential to the operation of unit activities by assisting & supporting operations from the unit or non-frontline locations. The Department for Child Protection Volunteer Driver would transport children and young people to and from family contact, appointments and may also assist with learner driver training. Some out of hours, long distance and overnight travel may be required.

St John's Phone Coordinators work as part of a rostered team. While on shift, Phone Coordinators are responsible for dispatching the local volunteer ambulance crew as required. Phone Coordinators do not take 000 calls, but are contacted by the central St John's Communications Team with relevant information for incidents.

General training is once a fortnight which involves everything needed to know on search, rescue to enhance skills. When a natural disaster strikes or an emergency situation arises, DFES’s State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers can be found providing a wide range of volunteer services to help the community cope from the impact a disaster. This involves providing emergency repairs on buildings, to restoration of essential services and ferrying cargo and passengers across flood waters. Helping the community to recover by responding to natural disasters is only part of SES’ responsibility.
