Cairns Children’s Museum is a not-for-profit whose mission is to offer hands-on, interactive, educational exhibits and play spaces for the children in Cairns and surrounds. Our aim is to become a space that inspires children to play, explore, wonder and be curious about all things STEAM. We have a range of exhibits and interactive experiences for children to engage with, including a wind tunnel, the longest kaleidoscope in the southern hemisphere and our imaginative play area, Tiny Town!

We are currently seeking Tour Guides and House & Program Support volunteers to work onsite at Newstead House, Brisbane's oldest domestic dwelling dating back to 1846.

Undertake guided tours of the Museum as necessary. Undertake Gallery Attendant duties in allocated gallery, as per roster. Meet and greet, and interact with members of the public. Answer visitor questions, as required. Direct visitors to appropriate services (i.e. toilet, water fountain, seats disabled facilities etc). You will build on your current skill set whilst helping grow FNQ Aviation Museum. Help grow the museum and build it up to a place where you will be able to bring your friends and family and enjoy the fruits of your labour from the future Centre & café.

We are on the hunt for art enthusiasts with a passion for sharing their love for the arts with visitors to the gallery. Volunteers must be double vaccinated.

It is a varied position where no two days will be the same, providing a rewarding and welcoming learning experience to the Museum through guided visits to the public. This role requires a well presented individual, with good communication and interpersonal skills. Full training and an introduction will be provided to the Museum exhibits. The Museum is open Monday to Saturday, with two guides or hosts working together. Volunteers must be vaccinated.
