A Gem Ward Volunteer assists staff in providing regular groups for Ward patients and encouraging them to participate. This enhances the service provided by increasing individual patient support.

The purpose of the Emergency Department volunteer program at Modbury Hospital is to work in partnership with paid staff of the Department, to enhance the quality of the ‘Emergency Department Experience’ for patients as well as the relatives and friends of the patient.

Volunteers bring a ‘non-clinical’ aspect of service to the Emergency Department which aims to provide support to those who are ill or confronting sudden trauma or loss.

Work with staff of Cardiology to ensure that patients and visitors needs are met, and that the experience of staying on the ward is effectively recorded for quality assurance, and improvement for future services. Provide support to the administrations staff of the Unit.

The role of the Volunteer Pastoral Care Assistant is to build positive relationships with clients within the WestCare Centre in order to provide appropriate pastoral care to them while embodying the ‘serving to transform lives’ ethos of Baptist Care SA. This relationship will be established and maintained through a variety of ways including eating lunch together, sharing coffee and informal conversations and actively listening to clients, playing games with them, such as chess and 8-ball.
