About this opportunity

  • Working under the direction of the Nurse Unit Manager/or identified personnel volunteers
  • Provide non-clinical conversations with patients while sitting with them
  • Spend time with patients and follow a schedule to assist in meaningful engagement activities
  • Conduct programmed leisure activities or hobby groups that are deemed appropriate
  • Provide support for administration duties not involving patient records: such as making administration packs for the ward, laminating, photocopying, ensuring yellow ADR stickers in all med folders, supply of green insulin stickers, pre-stamp charts.
  • Support long stay patients and patients who do not have families
  • Conduct Prem Survey
  • Assist visitors to find relatives and friends on the ward
  • Orientate patients, relatives and visitors to services and facilities on the ward & hospital (e.g. café, phones, car parking, gift shop, TV vouchers etc.)
  • Replenish water jugs
  • Refresh and arrange patient and ward flowers
  • Stock blanket warmer
  • Ensure patient and family fridge is suitably stock e.g. yoghurt, juices
  • Plan, assist and execute significant occasions for patients, eg. Birthdays, anniversary’s and public occasions e.g. Australia Day, Anzac Day, Christmas day and other National cultural celebrations
  • Implement the Breakfast Club when occurring
  • Ensure public areas in ward such as lounges are tidy, clean and stocked as required e.g. maintain tea and coffee supplies
  • Maintain diversional therapy cupboard e.g. ensuring it's kept tidy and equipment clean. Provide diversional therapy such as board games, cards, craft, café visits, sitting in the garden, walking within the hospital grounds


Additional requirements

Time Required

Shifts - Monday to Sunday - 8.00am to 12.00pm; 12.00pm to 4.00pm Minimum commitment of 2 four hour shifts a week required
