The Muscular Dystrophy Association of Tasmania (MD Tasmania) has been serving and supporting people with neuromuscular disorders, including muscular dystrophy for over 30 years mainly through the provision of funding towards essential equipment but actively supports individuals and families in other practical ways.
Muscular Dystrophy is the name given to a group of neuromuscular conditions, which are for the most part genetic. It is estimated the neuromuscular conditions affect over 20,000 Australians..
There are over 60 different types of neuromuscular conditions, however despite the variety of conditions falling under the umbrella of Muscular Dystrophy , they do have certain common features.
Muscular Dystrophy Tasmania relies solely on the support of volunteers for all of our operations.
