Marie Chandler Playgroup

About Marie Chandler Playgroup

MARIE CHANDLER PLAYGROUP in Boronia was the big winner at Playgroup Victoria Awards. The Playgroup took home three awards, including Playgroup of the Year, the biggest award of the night. They were also winners in
Community Playgroup of the Year (5+ sessions) and Julianne Beck won Community Playgroup Leader of the Year.
Marie Chandler Playgroup and Julianne were selected by a judging panel which included children’s author Janette Rowe, former Playgroup Victoria board chair Karen Harvey Collings, former Playgroup Victoria CEO Vivienne Cunningham-Smith and VCOSS policy advisor Carly Nowell.
In additional to being a community playgroup, Marie Chandler Playgroup also offers external support by sharing their facilities with supported playgroups and new
parent groups, and offering pediatric first aid courses for local families.
Marie Chandler Playgroup’s committee has worked on several initiatives to enhance the playgroup experience, with a particular focus on imaginative play. This included
extensive renovations on the outdoor playground, which now includes a fairy garden and pirate ship. Incorporating music into sessions was the idea of Marie Chandler’s
enrolments officer Julianne Beck. Julianne researched and purchased a collection of musical instruments for the playgroup to help incorporate music into sessions. She
then ran a Facebook competition where follows could vote for their favourite photo
of children playing with the new equipment.
