About this opportunity
The Aged Care Volunteer Visitor Scheme provides the opportunity for friendship and companionship between Volunteer Visitors and older members of the local community wishing to have a chat, connect and enjoy the company of someone who has similar interests and experiences.
Doncare's Volunteer Visitors will be matched with and regularly visit an older person (Recipient) who is socially isolated and lonely either in their home or a Residential Aged Care home. The Volunteer Visitor will connect with the Recipient providing one to one companionship and friendship. Volunteers will be matched with a Recipient with similar interested or background as a starting point for building an ongoing connection.
Volunteer Visitors must be able to provide at least a twelve month commitment to the program. Short term absences are possible however regular visiting at least fortnightly (preferably weekly) is requested.

The people we are looking for will have:
* Sensitivity to the needs of older people, including older people from diverse
backgrounds.
* Genuine empathy, understanding and enjoyment of older people and their
individuality and life time of experience.
* Ability to socialize, listen and communicate well with older people.
* Willingness to work as part of a team.
* Ability to encourage the recipient (clients’) independence where possible and
relevant.
* Second language highly regarded - in particular Italian, Cantonese, Mandarin, Greek, Persian or German.
