Job Description Summary

Oasis Youth is The Salvation Army’s response to Youth Homelessness in the Greater Sydney Area. Oasis Youth Crisis Accommodation services support young people aged between 16 to 21 experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness. We are looking for a caring, empathic and compassionate individual to assist us in a volunteer capacity in our Living Skills Program. The role will provide creative and therapeutic experiences for Oasis Youth Crises Accommodation Residents.

The Role

Using your ability to connect with people you will build constructive relationships and provide non-judgemental support with program participants and members of the community. You will enjoy promoting effective teamwork and good relationships with service providers.

Your respect for others and TSA will mean you maintain punctuality, reliability, being courteous and respectful when interacting with TSA staff, program participants and members of the community, and ensure confidentiality of information is maintained as you participate in site related activities.

You will flex your admin skills by keeping accurate records regarding mentoring program participants and that they are shared with site manager/supervisor as required by law and TSA guidelines.

Your desire to develop yourself in this area means you will provide information about the progress of the Role Model/Support person position, seek guidance when ethical dilemmas arise, be in regular contact with your supervisor and participate in training and events as required.

Providing quality client care, you will exhibit a professional image of TSA, always displaying professionalism and integrity. Listen carefully and acknowledge and refer concerns, issues, or queries to manager. Ensure accurate information is provided to clients and refer people to appropriate Salvation Army or external services.

Qualifications:

As this is a role working with young people a WWCC will be required and as it is a mentor position a Police Check will also be necessary.

Desired skill set/attributes

As this role mentors young people, we require a person of emotional maturity who can encourage independence and skills in our clients.
