Active LiFE Balance Program

Community Services Regular - less than 6 months South Melbourne VIC

About this opportunity

Would you like to improve your own wellbeing while helping someone else?

Become a Active LiFE Volunteer and enjoy the multitude of benefits to you!

This program provides clients who are older adults and who are at risk of falls, with increased confidence when walking, reduce their fear of falls and enable them to perform daily living activities more safely. The volunteer’s role is to provide weekly support to the physiotherapist and assist the clients as they perform a range of challenging balance activities, such as exercises performed with eyes closed, using a rocker board and negotiating an obstacle course. It’s a great way of gaining hands on experience in a program that produces great outcomes for clients, in relation to their balance.

Research provides evidence that being a volunteer for your community can:

  • Provide a sense of meaning and purpose
  • Help you feel connected to your community
  • Help you share your talents, learn new skills and provide a pathway to paid employment
  • Help you meet new people and build healthy relationships
  • Increase self-esteem and confidence
  • Help keep you physically active
  • Provide better mental health and quality of life
  • Support mental health recovery
  • Relieve stress, depression, loneliness and social isolation
  • Improve your relationships
  • Provide an opportunity to practice and develop your social skills
