Mechanical Maintenance and Project Crew.

Museums & Heritage Regular - more than 6 months Westbury TAS

About this opportunity

Pearn's Steam World has one of the best collection of agricultural steam engines, tractors and other farming artifacts in Australia. These need maintenance, preservation, restoration, or rebuilding depending on their condition.

We welcome anyone with the skills and/or aptitude to join the team who care for the collection. The collection ranges from large steam engines to small items such as hand-cranked seeders and butter churns.

Whilst some work on steam engines requires particular qualifications, there are plenty of opportunities for mechanically minded people, with or without formal engineering qualifications, to get involved in a practical way.

New volunteers are not expected to have experience with agricultural equipment (especially steam!) but if you have some experience, that would be great. We have a 'no pressure' time scale and can get support and advice on particular projects from people who have the experience and knowledge. And if you want to learn how to drive a steam engine......

Everyone at Pearns Steam World is a volunteer. We have a reasonably relaxed and stress-free environment where tea and coffee breaks are as important as opening on time. There is no segregation between ‘departments’: All roles are equally important, and all our team are equally accepted no matter their ability level…. As long as we all stay safe.
