Community Services Regular - more than 6 months Across: Perth WA, Bassendean WA, Ashfield WA, Eden Hill WA, Kiara WA, Lockridge WA, Morley WA, Embleton WA

About this opportunity

Are you someone who has a passion for music and wants to make a difference? We're seeking a compassionate individual to become a friend for Aiden, a happy and sociable person with intellectual disability.

What's Involved?

Although Aiden is mostly non-verbal, he communicates his needs and wants through simple gestures and is easily understood. He enjoys listening to music, going for ice cream and is looking for a friend who will come and hang out and share his interests.

As a volunteer, you would receive support and guidance to effectively communicate and connect with Aiden. Your role would involve spending time together every few weeks, engaging in activities Aiden loves. Whether listening to music, going for ice cream, or simply spending time together, your presence will make a significant difference in Aiden's life.

Why Volunteer?

By becoming Aiden's friend, you'll create a meaningful relationship that will brighten Aiden's days. Your friendship will make a profound impact and bring happiness to both Aiden and yourself.

You’ll have the flexibility to shape your involvement around your schedule, so whether you choose to dedicate an hour or so every few weeks or engage more casually, you can make a difference in a way that fits your life.

We provide training and ongoing support giving you access to workshops, events and opportunities to connect with other volunteers.

While no special experience or qualifications are needed, volunteering as an advocate requires:

  • compassion and empathy
  • good communication skills
  • patience and flexibility
  • commitment to inclusion
  • respect for diversity - abilities, backgrounds, and communication styles
  • reliability and dedication.

We're looking for dedicated individuals, aged 18 and above, ready for a long-term commitment to advocacy. This role is not suitable for students seeking short-term experience or placements. Consistency and dedication to the role is essential, as advocacy often requires ongoing support and involvement.

If you're ready to make a positive difference and forge a fantastic friendship, we'd love to hear from you.
