About the Program The Aberfoyle Community Centre Adult Literacy Tutor assists the Adult Literacy Coordinator to deliver a professional and accessible adult literacy program to all enrolled students.

Key Tasks

  • Consult with the Adult Literacy Coordinator about the needs of student(s) and assist student(s) in meeting student’s learning goals.
  • Notify the Adult Literacy Coordinator of requests for any materials/resources that might be helpful in meeting those needs.
  • Inform the Adult Literacy Coordinator of any issues that you and/or your student(s) might have.
  • Help maintain a learning environment that is non-threatening and encouraging.
  • Help provide student(s) with a sense of progress and achievement that encourages them to explore further options.
  • Record progress/achievements in student’s file.
  • Participate in event/activity preparation and setting up/removal of equipment.
  • Adhering to all Safe Work Procedures and report all incidents, hazards, near misses and accidents as soon as reasonably practicable.
  • Attend staff/volunteer team meetings.

  • Physically capable of carrying out the required duties.

Time Commitment: Program sessions are held every Tuesdays from 9.30am to 11.30am and Thursdays 9.30am to 11.30am during school term.

Some additional hours may be requested for replacing other volunteers who are on leave and/or at special events.

Special Requirements

  • Must possess and provide a Department of Human Services (DHS) “Not Prohibited” Working with Children Check prior to commencement.
