About this opportunity

Outer East Foodshare collects donated, surplus and rescued food and delivers it to agencies to feed families with food insecurity. Assist to unload and reload food delivered to the Hub. Some food may need to be stored in the Hub for later collection. Help physically sort and pack food for distribution to the food relief agencies we support.

Qualification/skills required: Basic food safety. At least successful completion of “DoFoodSafely Certificate of Completion” Vic Health Due to the physical nature of this role, volunteering involves manual handling and a reasonable level of fitness is required. Tasks include lifting, lowering, bending, pushing, pulling, holding, twisting, turning, repetitive movements and standing for periods of time. Some heavy lifting up to 12kg may be required. Volunteering may not be suitable for anyone with muscular, skeletal or back injuries. Please consider if this type of volunteering is right for you. We do not allow volunteers to participate if we determine volunteers are unable to perform tasks safely.

Other Tasks include; Receiving food from Foodbank and other suppliers Packing food orders for delivery to local agencies Sorting, labelling, repacking food donations Sorting and packing fresh produce

The duration of this position is around 6 months and is flexible over one to two days per week.

Time Required

Hours are flexible but a commitment of one or two days would be fabulous!
