About this opportunity

Volunteering in the front counter of a police station is essentially the first meet and greet when a member of the public attends.

Volunteering at the Police Academy involves role playing exercises to assist with police cadet and detective training courses.

Volunteering with our police horses involves creating a riot scene to train the horses on what is required of them if this occurs.

Combined emergency scenarios involve multiple emergency services agency training together, i.e. plane crash, hostage situation.

Road Safety Centre involves volunteers assisting children on bicycles on a mock roadway to learn road safety.

Volunteers working with children at Blue Light disco's or the Road Safety Centre will require a Department of Human Services Working with Children Check. This application is free of charge and will be commenced by the South Australia Police Volunteer Unit.

* As each organisation provides different levels/types of insurance, volunteers are reminded to check with the organisation as to the type of insurance provided for volunteers (e.g. Voluntary Workers Personal Accident Insurance).
* Best practice volunteer involvement recommends that a volunteer role should not be more than 15-16 hours per week.
