Museum Receptionist

Museums & Heritage Regular - more than 6 months South Townsville QLD

About this opportunity

The Maritime Museum of Townsville collects stories and objects related to North Queensland's maritime heritage and has as its customers the local community, schools and tourists. It was established in 1986 and features a range of thematic displays, including wars in the Pacific, Port history, the evolution of ships and the Yongala shipwreck. The Museum is staffed by volunteers to operate it with various and diverse roles. One of the most critical roles is the receptionist role. Without a receptionist staffing the front desk the Museum will not be able to be open to the public for that day.

Friendly, outgoing, engaging with customers, able to work as part of a team of volunteers, interested in heritage, innovative in terms of suggesting new ideas for the Museum

Opening and closing the Museum, getting it ready to receive visitors, greeting visitors, collecting admission fees, directing visitors to the galleries, selling merchandise, answering enquiries, basic cleaning before visitors arrive

Gaining experience in managing the front of house operations of a small but great local maritime museum as part of a dedicated team of volunteers. Learning about history and heritage. Learning what other volunteers are doing.
