About this opportunity

The Red Cross Emergency Services program aims to assist individuals and communities before, during and after an emergency to cope with and manage the psychosocial impacts. The strength of Red Cross lies in our volunteer network, community-based expertise and our ability to represent the interest of vulnerable people. By improving humanitarian standards, working as partners in development, responding to disasters and supporting healthier and safer communities; we help to reduce vulnerabilities and strengthen resilience.

Red Cross Volunteers play a vital role in emergencies. As a Red Cross Emergency Services Volunteer, you will have the opportunity to choose from different styles of volunteering. You will have the flexibility to choose how and when you volunteer your time, for example training activities, team meetings, community events, administrative support, telephone services as well as responding to emergencies in Relief and Recovery Centres.

As we continue to build our local teams, we are looking for Volunteers who are reliable, possess good interpersonal skills and can work with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

Further to this, you will have the following mindset and skills:

  • A passion to volunteer with a humanitarian organisation
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Personal experience in managing stressful, emotional and/or adverse situations
  • Understanding of, and respect for, privacy, confidentiality, and appropriate boundaries
  • Emergency Services volunteers may also have the opportunity to work with other communities throughout Victoria and interstate.

National Police Certificate *. Working with Vulnerable People Check .

Time Required

Planned commitment of at least 20 hours per year, plus the possibility of emergency activations
