Telephone Crisis Support Volunteer at the newly opened Lifeline Narrm

Mental Health Regular - more than 6 months Abbotsford VIC

About this opportunity

The newly established Lifeline Narrm will be taking calls from June 2023, at our Abbotsford crisis support centre.

Australia wide, Lifeline receives a call every 30 seconds to our 13 11 14 crisis support number.

Victoria accounts for 26% of the Australian population however, during the past two years, over 30% of calls to Lifeline were from Victorians. Despite our best efforts, in the Lifeline Narrm geography of Merri-bek to Manningham, on average, 3 people die by suicide each week.

The need for crisis support is great, and so too is our need for empathetic, non-judgmental volunteers with time to spare for their community.

Anyone can be a telephone crisis supporter.

Extensive training and support will be provided. On successful completion of the entire Crisis Supporter Workplace Training (CSWT) pathway you will gain a Statement of Attainment with the below three units of competency.

  • CHCCCS003 Increase the safety of individuals at risk of suicide
  • CHCCCS019 Recognise and respond to crisis situations
  • CHCCCS028 Provide client centred support to people in crisis

The cost of this training will be waived in the first 6 months of the Lifeline Narrm centre opening.

Delivery of training is on behalf of Lifeline Australia RTO 88036. This training program is NOT intended to equip participants to undertake therapeutic or counselling work.

If you have ever been interested in what it takes to save a life, we encourage you to tune in to our next information session.
