Hope Garden Assistant

About this opportunity

Specific Tasks and Duties:

  • Soil Preparation, propagation, planting, watering, weeding, mowing lawns, pest control, mulching, harvesting, and maintaining compost systems
  • General maintenance within the Hope Garden area
  • Attend the nominated shift
  • Communicate in advance by email or phone if a nominated shift has to be cancelled
  • To discontinue your volunteer role with Cultura please notify us by email

The successful applicant will possess:

  • An enthusiastic passion for being part of Cultura’s local food system and a willingness to help feed our local community.
  • A genuine interest and commitment to organic gardening and supporting new arrival communities to grow food in the garden.
  • Moderate Fitness. You will need a reasonable level of physical health and mobility suited to undertaking moderately vigorous physical work including bending, using a wheel-barrow and lifting moderate weights.
  • A willingness to learn more about organic gardening
  • A willingness to learn and be curious about other cultures
  • A commitment to safety and to employ safe working practices as guided by your supervisor is mandatory.
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal instructions
  • Be able to work both independently and as a part of a team
  • Positive attitude and good work ethic
  • Be respectful, polite and courteous to fellow volunteers, staff and clients.
  • A commitment to Cultura’s values and code of behaviour
  • Love of the outdoors and people

Additional requirements

Covid-19 vaccination . Driver's Licence (C) . National Police Certificate *. Working with Children Check *.

What you need to bring
- Suitable, weather appropriate clothing for working outdoors including hat or raincoat.
- Solid, enclosed-toe work boots are an WH&S requirement

Time Required

Commencing with a minimum of 2 hrs for at least 1 day a week for 3 months. Times required: 9:30am - 12.30pm Wednesday or Thursday. Additional information is available from the Agency
