Merri-bek TAC L2P Learner Driver Mentor Program

Mentoring & Advocacy Regular - more than 6 months Moreland VIC

About this opportunity

The Merri-bek L2P Program is in its 13th year and is delivered by the Inner Northern Local Learning and Employment Network (INLLEN).

We are currently seeking volunteer mentors who are open-minded, calm, supportive and reliable. Mentors should be a positive adult role model, encouraging safe, lawful and responsible driving.

Mentors drive with their learner on a regular basis, to supervise and coach them to ensure driving skills and awareness of road safety rules increase.

The Merri-bek L2P Program Coordinator works with mentors to:

  • ensure you are trained and supported in your role
  • match you with a young learner driver who has at least basic driving skills
  • provide you access to a vehicle (available 7 days) with a fuel card, e-tag and comprehensive vehicle insurance

Along with young people obtaining their probationary drivers’ licence, the benefits of the L2P program for young people include increased access to employment and education opportunities, and increased independence, confidence, life aspiration, social connections and greater community engagement.

The benefits to the mentors who volunteer for the program include self-reported increases in purpose and community connectedness and reduced levels of social isolation.
