About this opportunity

Whittlesea Food Collective (WFC) is an initiative of Whittlesea Community Connections (WCC) and the Whittlesea Emergency Relief Network that launched in November 2019. WFC provides emergency food relief to those experiencing financial hardship or food insecurity. Whittlesea Food Collective is a central point of donation and collection of food supplies for the community. It is located at Melbourne Polytechnic’s Epping Campus. The site includes storage, walk-in cool room and freezer, refrigerated truck (4.5t) and public area setup as a mini supermarket.

• Picking up and delivering food and supplies in refrigerated truck • Ensure appropriate levels of client service and safety procedures are followed at all times • Assist with safely loading and unloading truck, on and off-site • Safely operating a walkie-stacker and moving pallets • Assist with organising the bulk storage of food in the Food Collective warehouse • Responsible for notifying supermarket coordinator of any challenges or incidents that occur in the course of volunteering for WCC (involving truck, clients, suppliers, etc.) • Assist with ad-hoc warehouse related tasks if required; including packing shelves, speaking with clients and general tidiness of the warehouse.

Driver's Licence (C) . Driver's Licence (F) . National Police Certificate *. Working with Children Check *.

• A full driver’s licence and clean driving record is essential (our 3.5 tonne with automatic transmission truck can be legally driven with a car licence)
• Ability to safely drive a tall and wide vehicle with limited visibility
• Ability to safely lift cartons and items
• Interest and desire in assisting vulnerable people in the City of Whittlesea
• Empathy for people with different life experiences and cultural backgrounds
• Understanding of Whittlesea Community Connection’s mission to address disadvantage in the community, and to promote community participation
• Ability to work within operational policies and maintain confidentiality
• Ability to work in a culturally appropriate way
• An understanding of the refugee experience within Australia
• Ability to work within child safe parameters
