The Orangutan Project is expanding and we're looking for an Assistant Team Leader to join our busy Canberra fundraising team. You will help organise events and market stalls in Canberra and support and manage the dedicated team of Fundraising and Events Volunteers.

Our Assistant Team Leaders are one of the most important roles to help us grow, and the time to join us is now!

About the role

This position reports to the Canberra Fundraising Team Leader. This role is primarily about managing a small team of volunteers, organising fundraising events and activities, promoting events, and selling event tickets in your community.

Our Assistant Team Leaders play a central role in The Orangutan Project to raise much-needed funds to save orangutans and their rainforest homes.

The role includes:

  • working with the CanberraTeam Leader to plan and coordinate events and stalls at markets and festivals
  • planning and coordinating fundraising events in your community
  • promoting fundraising events to your community and selling tickets
  • researching and booking stalls at markets and community festivals
  • talking to people about the threats facing orangutans and the role TOP plays in Sumatra and Borneo
  • managing merchandise and funds raised at events and stalls
  • guiding and supporting volunteers that help out at your events

About you

You're passionate about the environment, especially about saving orangutans and other species from extinction, and protecting the rainforests we all rely on.

You are a proactive self-starter, and an excellent communicator who loves getting out and about in your local community. You have time and energy to put into this role, including occasional volunteering on weekends and evenings.

You have experience in event coordination, fundraising or team management, and you're comfortable supervising volunteers. A good understanding of customer service principles and strong organisational skills will help you to be successful in this rolee.

Additional requirements

Driver's Licence (C) .

You must have the right to volunteer in Australia, as well as a driver's licence and access to a car. You will also need space to store merchandise and equipment.

Time Required

You'll volunteer for around 10+ hours per month, usually involving one weekend and some evenings. Hours will vary, depending on the time of year and the activities you have planned.

Training and induction is provided when you are accepted as a TOP volunteer. Training in how to talk to the public about TOP and our work, as well as in team management, communications, fundraising, finance and event coordination is available.
