Aged Care Volunteer Visitor
About this opportunity
Sacred Heart Mission (SHM) is a local Melbourne charity focused on elevating disadvantage, social exclusion, and homelessness. Volunteering in our own or partner aged care residential facilities is a wonderful and engaging experience that directly supports these goals and values.
Many residents have histories of experiencing homelessness or disadvantage, many with a range of complex needs, resulting from negative life experiences including the effects of poverty, exposure to trauma and social isolation.
Responsibilities
Regularly visit a resident (that you are matched with) in an Aged Care Facility in one of the above listed suburbs
Engage the resident in hobbies and activities, which can range from reading the newspaper together to making music or playing cards
Due to the isolation and age of some of the residents their mental capacity can be quite varied. However, we try to match people with common or similar interests
Additional requirements
Covid-19 vaccination . National Police Certificate *.
As part of the application process, you must agree to a confidentiality agreement, adhere to our Code of Conduct, complete a NDIS check (if applicable to the resident you are matched with) or be willing to undergo a police check.
Weekly/fortnightly visits, during business hours, Monday – Friday Note: We do require the volunteer to commit for at least six months because it takes time to build a relationship between the resident and volunteer.
