About this opportunity

Position Overview Directors take ultimate responsibility for the work that the organisation does, and the way in which it spends money, to achieve its aims. It is a big responsibility, focussing on the strategic direction of the organisation, agreeing plans and budgets, and holding staff, directors and board members to account for the delivery of the plans. It has a legal dimension too, with Directors legally responsible for ensuring that the organisation operates to standards set by AICD. Time commitment - average of 1 day per month. Two year term of office. It is a task that takes time to do properly; in fact initially we estimate the task will require two days per month. The full operational board meets every other month; there may be sub committees, with authority delegated to them by the executive committee, meeting at other intervals; and volunteers may seek to consult with you on your particular expertise. You may be asked to represent AW at outside meetings with potential funders or influencers or work alongside staff at events and receptions. The Treasurer will:

  • have an interest in and facility with financial matters
  • have attention to detail
  • follow due process
  • deliver in a timely manner

As the Treasurer You will:

  • prepare and monitor the budget
  • keep AW’s books up to date
  • keep a proper record of all payments and monies received
  • prepare financial reports for and deliver the Treasurer’s report at Board meetings
  • show evidence that money received is banked and documentation provided for all money paid out
  • responsible for engaging auditors to conduct annual audit, and preparation of financial information for the same.
  • Present audit reports to the AGM
  • produce an annual financial report
  • send out accounts and pay the bills
  • monitor the overseas/Laos bank account
  • ensure sufficient funds in Laos account to facilitate wages for on-ground/in-country staff

Key Responsibilities With other Directors be accountable for AW by:

  • ensuring that AW has a clear vision, mission and strategic direction, and is focused on achieving these
  • being responsible for the performance of AW and for its ‘corporate’ behaviour
  • ensuring that AW complies with all legal and regulatory requirements
  • acting as guardians of AW’s assets, both tangible and intangible, taking all due care over their security, deployment and proper application
  • ensuring that the AW’s governance is of the highest possible standard
  • work in partnership with other Directors, the CEO, and other volunteers.

Additional requirements

Experience in managing budgets and developing financial reports.

Approximately 2 days per month plus board meetings
