Volunteer Community Bus Driver

We have a brand new wheelchair accessible Community Transport mini bus (a first for the Shire!), and are looking for Volunteer Drivers for the Wellbeing Bus Program.

If you have a current full Victorian Drivers Licence, with at least 5 years driving experience, along with the ability to relate to a diverse range of community members including frail aged and people with a disability, we would love to hear from you! Training on the use of the Wheelchair lift fitted to the bus will be provided, in addition to certified First Aid/CPR training.

More information: ABOUT THE UNIT The Community Wellbeing unit incorporates the Access and Assessment, Access and Support, Home Support, Service Support and Healthy Ageing teams and other projects from time to time. The unit focuses on providing services to our community, particularly the elderly and those with disabilities to ensure support, independence and quality of life in their own homes.

POSITION OBJECTIVES • To support the Wellbeing Bus project to promote exercise to its target group by providing an accessible transport service for passengers from their place of residence to either suitable public transport options or nominated aquatic facilities outside Mount Alexander Shire. • To enhance the social connectedness of residents of the Mount Alexander Shire Council through the Wellbeing Bus Project.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Volunteer Duties • Assist the Wellness Bus Council Officer to manage transportation of residents to and from activities located across the Loddon Campaspe Region. • Communicate with the Wellness Bus Council Officer to assist with rostering and transportation numbers, and advise where necessary on optimum transport routes and vehicles. • Drive vehicles (either cars or small seater buses) to pick up residents, and drop residents back to designated pick up and drop off points. • Assist the Wellness Bus Council Officer to optimise participants transport booking attendance, including making telephone calls to participants to confirm their booking. • Assist passengers who need to utilise the wheelchair access facilities to manage access to and from the bus. • To collect data according to project need, including numbers of service users, destinations, kilometres travelled, travel time required. • To participate in evaluation of the project as required, through data collection and undertaking interviews on your experience as a Volunteer Driver. • Advise where required on transport matters to assist in the facilitation of the Wellness Bus Project.

Volunteer responsibilities In Accordance with the Wellness Bus Program: • Report to Wellness Bus Council Officer any issues with regards to client concerns and/or needs. • To be client focused and have an understanding of the needs of residents using the Wellness Bus service. • Liaise with the Wellness Bus Council Officer in regard to availability for rostered activities. • Ensure all client relationships are in accordance with the Mount Alexander Shire Council’s and Community Wellbeing policies. • Adhere to Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Community Wellbeing Policies and Procedures at all times. • Attend training and volunteer team meetings throughout the year. • Maintain current first aid and manual handling training.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY A Volunteer, while undertaking assigned duties, shall: • be responsible for compliance with OH&S regulations relevant to the tasks performed. • provide a safe working environment for the community and private property whilst engaged in work practices. • take care of their own health and safety and the health and safety of any other person who may be affected by the Volunteer’s acts or omissions at the workplace. • adhere to and assist in the continuous improvement of Council’s occupational health and safety, and risk systems. • ensure any issues identified as a risk to the public, contractor or members of staff are reported in accordance with Council’s incident reporting procedure. • adhere to and assist in the continuous improvement of Council’s risk management system.

Volunteers may be required to contribute to emergency management planning and activities as they arise and in an emergency you may be directed by your manager to participate in duties not normally assigned to you.


Additional requirements

Driver's Licence (C) . National Police Certificate *. Working with Children Check *.

• A current Drivers Licence and each incumbent will be required to furnish a 5 year Driver History Report, available from VicRoads.
Good local knowledge of Mount Alexander Shire Geographical areas.
Good road navigation skills.
Excellent driving skills on all road conditions and in all-weather conditions.
