Volunteer Client Support Officer – Gosford Vinnies Support Centre

About this opportunity

The Gosford Vinnies support centre offers a range of support and services to those who reside in Gosford and the larger community. The Hub aims to provide services that support people to achieve stability in their lives through empowerment and self-determination.

Gosford VSC provides support and information through:

• Advocating in your interests • Referral to relevant services • Assistance with completing forms • Providing resources and information • Use of a computer (conditions apply) • Assistance with bills (Telstra and Sydney Water) • Food parcels and material aid (limits apply)

Duties and Responsibilities

• Welcoming and assessing clients to the centre incorporating the W.E.C.A.R.E model. • Interview & assess clients impartially in relation to their needs and enquiries • Provide appropriate support to clients and follow up situations where required

• Provide relevant information and/or referral to appropriate services • Advocate and negotiate on behalf of client when required. • Maintain an enthusiastic, cooperative, professional and friendly approach. • Consult with VSC staff/coordinator when unsure of process/outcome of interview. • Prepare to adopt and adhere to the ethos of the St Vincent de Paul Society (NSW).

To be successful in this role you will need:

• Friendly personality and good communication skills • Basic literacy and writing skills • Willingness to develop new skills • Be aware of your own strengths and limitations • Able to work effectively as part of a team. • Good listening and problem solving skills • Be able to advocate for the clients needs • Able to communicate with people facing a diverse range of problems from diverse backgrounds (in person and over the telephone) • An understanding of and willingness to maintain strict confidentiality in the position at all times • Adherence to WH&S requirements (with appropriate direction and guidance)

Time Required

We ask for a minimum commitment of 1 day per week from 9.00am – 4.00pm.
