Male Youth Mentor for young people in care - Hamilton Hill, Baldivis and Kwinana areas

Mentoring & Advocacy Regular - more than 6 months Across: Hamilton Hill WA, Baldivis WA, Kwinana Town Centre WA

About this opportunity

A mentor is an everyday person who likes to help others, especially young people. The simple act of a walk together, a game of basketball, or a hot chocolate and a good laugh, providing opportunity for conversation and connection, can make the world of difference to a young person who feels disconnected and unheard. You could be this person, someone who provides an opportunity for the young person to be empowered, connected and to begin creating positive potential in their life.

There is a great need for mentors for our young people in care and we would like to see some mature and well-grounded individuals who could give a little of their time to take on this essential mutually rewarding role.

As a mentor, you would be involved in befriending and supporting a young person who is in the care of the Department for Communities. You would be supporting the young person as a stable and positive role model; someone who takes the time to build a relationship that encourages growth and success in their life. You would need to be able to commit for a minimum of 12 months, though we hope this may last longer. Your commitment is based around catching up with the young person every 2 weeks for 2-5 hours at a time.

The Program Coordinator will provide initial training and ongoing support through individual supervision, along with mentors group events during the year, supporting you in being in the best possible place to provide these opportunities for the young person you are matched with.
