L2P Learner Driver Mentor

Young People Regular - more than 6 months Across: Hawthorn VIC, Camberwell VIC, Ashburton VIC, Surrey Hills VIC, Kew VIC, Balwyn VIC, Glen Iris VIC, Balwyn North VIC

About this opportunity

The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of the City of Boroondara L2P Driving Program.

The TAC L2P program is designed to help eligible young people aged between 16-23 years gain 120 hours of driving experience, under the supervision of a volunteer fully licensed driver.

The role and function of a mentor is to supervise rather than instruct; be a role model driver and support the young learner so that they may apply for their probationary license. This process will aid the confidence and development of young drivers.

Mentors will work in conjunction with Council’s L2P Project Officer, who will provide advice and support to the volunteers. The L2P Project Officer is advised under the guidance and direction of a professional driving instructor and the Department of Transport and Planning, who provide recommendations that appropriately support young learner drivers.

There is no cost to young people or volunteers in the program, and petrol and an automatic vehicle are provided for use during the TAC L2P Program, noting that all mentor supervising lessons will be conducted only in the L2P vehicle.

Mentors are required to undertake a selection process in addition to relevant training. The training is designed to better understand the role of a supervising driver on the road.

When volunteering for the TAC L2P Program, all mentors need to abide by the Child Safe Standards. More information will be provided throughout the application and onboarding process.

*During COVID-19, we are taking all necessary steps to assist with safety in the program as advised and directed from The Department of Health and Human Services.
