Children Activity Assistant

About this opportunity

You can organise and deliver playgroup activities for the children who attend our programs. Under the direction and support from the Program Manager, provide playgroup activities to encourage social networking amongst children and parent/s. Work within the philosophy and guidelines of Friends of Refugees ensuring that program policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to.

The role includes setting up craft activities, equipment and toys in preparation for the session. The volunteer will give assistance to mothers with children where needed, play with children, assist supervision of outdoor playtime, assist with packing up and cleaning of room when playgroup session is finished.

Key Resposabilities: Children Ensure that all children are safe, promote sharing and interaction within the group Encourage parents with the support of their children Instil the importance of conversation in English with children

Books/Toys All toys are clean and in safe condition for children Disinfected toys after class and clean all play areas

Reporting Complete weekly attendance records for children, with the support of other Children Activity worker.

Team Work Work closely with other Children Activity workers and volunteers Report to Program Manager with any complex issues that may arise. Attend information sessions and excursions for programs as necessary.

Attend Professional Development opportunities, participate in Special Days, and support Fundraising at Friends of Refugees.

Promote pathways to other programs at Friends of Refugees and local service providers.

Maintain confidentiality and privacy always.

Food & Drinks

Prepare food/or drinks for children and under Friends of Refugee policy only parents will hand over food, or dink to their children.

Other Duties To perform other duties as directed by CEO and/or Program Manager

Occupational Health and Safety Actively participate in the identification, reduction and reporting of potential hazards, issues, and safe practices within the workplace.

Actively promote safety and safe work practices to all users of the centre and hirers of facilities.
