About this opportunity

This role involves visiting Palliative Care clients in their homes providing either respite for their care, companionship, foot massage etc. or assisting with some special task they might enjoy. We also have a role for people interested in biography, collating photobooks etc. Every effort will be made to match volunteers with the client (e.g. interests, location etc.).

You need to be a person who can ‘be present’ to another, not trying to ‘fit or change anything’ but being a good listener, a companion who can provide just that human caring touch which makes all the difference.

Volunteers who work in the community need to have good boundaries and ability to work as a team member. Listen without imposing own agenda.

You will also be required to attend the group debrief and ongoing education sessions to ensure you are supported and also provides you with the opportunity of catching up with your community colleagues.

Massage skills would be an advantage however, basic massage will be taught during training for those interested in learning and providing this skills to their clients.

Volunteer will be required to speak reasonable English. If you speak another language, it would be most welcome. You will need to have access to your own car with comprehensive car insurance, to visit your client in their home. Minimum age is 25yo.

Volunteers will be required to have: • National Police Check • Working with Children Check • Immunisation Health Status as per NSW Health requirement • Mandatory face to face training

o Category A: working in clinical areas- (Covid x3, Flu Vax,Hep B, DtpA, MMR).
o Category B: working in Admin non clinical: (CoVid x 3 and Flu Vax)
• References x 2 (not family or friends)
• Mandatory training: ELearning and 2 day face to face training to prepare volunteer to work safely in a health care environment.
• WWCC for volunteers working in the Community

Time Required

2-4 hours, between 9am-5pm flexible, weekdays.
