About this opportunity

AUSMAP is a not-for-profit organisation which engages volunteers and scientists to collect and analyse microplastics from beaches shorelines around Australia. Our goal is to effect behavioural changes in the use and disposal of plastics, as well as collect scientific rigorous data that can be used to advise management and policy making.

We are seeking an improvement or complete rebuild of an integrated online map showing the microplastic collection in Australia and the analysis that has been carried out by their volunteers and scientists.

The scope of the works consists of ingesting data relating to the distribution of microplastics across beaches in Australia.  This data is collected by volunteers in spreadsheets. To date, this spreadsheet information has been converted to CSV files, which are then uploaded (by AUSMAP) into a pre-defined Google Cloud Platform Storage bucket. This CSV data is then channelled into BigQuery - Google’s data warehouse solution.

We seek someone with coding expertise interested in helping us navigate whether a complete rebuild on the map is required or possibly an update/extension to the current map (with a key goal to be able to edit/delete data from the map when necessary).
