About this opportunity

All new volunteers are provided with an orientation to the emergency department and role, initial and ongoing support from the Volunteer Manager and ED Volunteer Team Leader helps to ensure volunteers are comfortable, confident, and happy in their roles.

Key Responsibilities *Perform duties under the direction and supervision of ED staff.

  • Meet and greet people attending the ED with a clear understanding of confidential issues. *Escort patients, families, and visitors around the Emergency Department. *Provide directions. *Provide information about hospital facilities and amenities, and the surrounding areas. *Provide colouring packs to children, offer blankets, and general conversation to those in ED. *Maintain statistical information about the assistance supplied. *Perform other reasonable tasks as designated by the Volunteer Manager or Team Leader.


Additional requirements

In accordance with the Tasmanian Department of Health guidelines,
prospective volunteers need to meet the following criteria:

*Be 18 years or older.

*Attend a Volunteer Interview and Information Session.

*Undergo a criminal record and working with children clearance check.

*Undertake immunisation checks and clearance.

*Attend annual fire training.

*Attend annual WH&S training.

*Attend annual Hand Hygiene training.

*Complete The Fundamentals of Safeguarding Children and Young People Training.

*Sign a confidentiality agreement.

*Complete a medical declaration.

*Attend induction and corporate orientation.

*Commit to at least 12 months of volunteering.

*Undertake a probationary period.

*Have good communication skills.

*Be punctual and reliable.

*Be well presented.

Time Required

Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays Morning Shift - 9:00 am to 12 noon. Afternoon Shift - 12 noon to 3:00 pm After hours - following the probation period and agreement with RHH Volunteer Manager and ED Team Leader.
