Volunteer Patient Support

The Volunteer Patient Support role provides support and assistance to patients and visitors attending our cancer centre in Adelaide. Typical tasks include providing information and practical help to patients and families such as directions around the centre or help with forms, offering refreshments, providing support and companionship to patients before and during treatment appointments, and assisting with general administrative tasks such as preparing information packs and patient resources. We are keen to match your skills and areas of interest with the volunteer tasks available.

All new volunteers will be provided with an orientation and training session, as well as ongoing support.

As a Patient Support Volunteer, you will brighten up the day of our patients and their families, when they attend our cancer centre. These volunteer positions are an important part of our friendly team which includes nurses, doctors, administration staff, pharmacists and clinical trials co-ordinators. We look forward to welcoming you into our team to help us support our patients.

Additional requirements

Medical Check *. National Police Certificate *.

We will provide new volunteers with a list of vaccinations required to volunteer in a clinical setting. We will organise and pay for a National Police Check for new volunteers.

* As each organisation provides different levels/types of insurance, volunteers are reminded to check with the organisation as to the type of insurance provided for volunteers (e.g. Voluntary Workers Personal Accident Insurance).
* Best practice volunteer involvement recommends that a volunteer role should not be more than 15-16 hours per week.

* May be arranged via the Organisation. Details to be provided on expression of interest.
Time Required

We are looking for volunteers who can commit to a minimum of 1-2 regular volunteer shifts per week. Shift days and times can be negotiated individually and will take into account volunteer preferences.
