Deck hand and maintenance helper, to join a friendly happy crew.

Our two ex- Navy tugs, Currawong and Bronzewing are in frequent use manoeuvring our own vessels and floating docks in Rozelle Bay as well as helping out other maritime operators around Sydney Harbour from time to time (e.g. the Australian National Maritime Museum in Pyrmont )

We will require up to 4 deck crew throughout 2024. Ideally we are looking for people who are willing to be both be deck crew and maintenance volunteers [during the week].

There are no specific skills required. We are looking for people both enthusiastic and reliable. They need to be reasonably fit, thus the upper age range is mid 70’s due to the physical nature of the work. As a guide, a homeowner with some DIY skills [painting, general work around home etc] We have training programs for people without the required skills.

Sydney Heritage Fleet is what can be called "A happy shed" where there are no cliques, no politics, and an atmosphere of mutual support. Ask a question and receive a cheerful answer. On your first day you will be warmly greeted and shown around to see what is going on.

Access via light rail to Rozelle Bay, buses along Anzac Bridge and Victoria Road, onsite car parking.

Time Required

Tug crew usually attend for maintenance on Wednesdays, and Fridays, at times between 8 am and 3 pm, whenever suits you. Deck crew work as required when the tug(s) have movements to handle. We keep in constant touch by phone email or word of mouth.
