About Qld State Emergency Service

The Queensland SES is a “not-for-profit organisation” that shares its highly recognised name with the States and Territory SES organisations throughout Australia. With approximately 5,100 active and unpaid members, the Queensland SES performs a diverse range of functions to respond to local, State and National disasters and emergencies.

SES assistance is provided for non-life threatening emergency situations during floods, storms or other similar events. SES also support other agencies such as Queensland Police Service and Queensland Fire and Rescue Service to perform additional functions and different types of disasters and emergencies such as:

Vertical Rescue
Flood Boat Rescue
Road Crash Rescue
Urban, Rural and Evacuation Searches
Emergency Traffic Management
Urban Search and Rescue
Agency Support
Incident Management
Community Education

The SES is designed to empower people to help themselves and others in their community in times of emergency and disaster.

SES members receive world class training providing them with real life skills which are used during emergencies, and knowledge that stays with them throughout their life. Our members are trained and equipped to help their communities across a range of functions, and their primary purpose is to assist the most vulnerable members of the community.

SES members work together with a great group of like–minded people. They train and respond to emergencies together, and the experiences they share lay the foundations for life-long friendships.
