Vision Australia's mission is to provide support to people who are blind or low vision to live the life they choose. Vision Australia Radio 1197AM Adelaide (also known as 5RPH and VAR Adelaide) delivers a reading and information service to people with a print disability. It plays a vital role in meeting their information needs, since 1975.

Vision Australia Radio 1197AM Adelaide is looking for more volunteer broadcasters to join our daily News Breakfast – The Advertiser program. This role involves an early start and finish (6:00AM to 9:00AM only), once a week or fortnight, gathering and reading news items on radio, as part of a small team of volunteers. All training is provided.

Candidates’ essential attributes:

  • Early riser (6AM start – we are located in Mile End)
  • Good reading out loud skills
  • Reliable once committed to a shift

You will be required to provide two referees and complete a police check (at no cost to you) and Vision Australia online induction training.

Our workforce (staff and volunteers) work with Seeing Eye Dogs and all staff and volunteers may come in contact with working dogs.


Additional requirements

National Police Certificate *.

We will organise a Police Check for you (at no cost to you).

*Please note:
* As each organisation provides different levels/types of insurance, volunteers are reminded to check with the organisation as to the type of insurance provided for volunteers (e.g. Voluntary Workers Personal Accident Insurance).
* Best practice volunteer involvement recommends that a volunteer role should not be more than 15-16 hours per week.

* May be arranged via the Organisation. Details to be provided on expression of interest.
Time Required

3hrs, early morning: 6AM to 9AM, once a week (or once a fortnight), Monday to Friday only.
