The homestead was built between 1862 and 1880 for John Maley (King of the Greenough Flats), miller, storekeeper, hotel proprietor, entrepreneur and father of 14 children. The Receptionist is the first point of contact for visitors, so this role requires a well presented individual, with good communication and interpersonal skills. Tasks include ticket and retail sales, visitor greeting, orientation and assistance, telephone inquiries and direction. The Museum is open Monday to Saturday, and two receptionists are usually rostered to work together. Volunteers must be vaccinated.

The aim is to maintain the physical & electronic collection registers of Photographs and Objects within the museum and the machinery shed.
