Gemma is sociable and likes to get out and about. She enjoys girl time and has a love for jewellery, nails and hair. She is non-verbal but has her own way of communicating. She has supportive staff in her group home that can help teach you these communication techniques.

Leah is a friendly and articulate lady in her 40’s with autism who has an interest in handicraft and Taiko Japanese drumming. She is seeking an advocate close to where she lives in Willagee to be her friend and meet up with her occasionally, sometimes independently and sometimes with her son, who is 7 years old. This person would gently encourage Leah to pursue some of her interests and hobbies and get out of the house.

Jodie is a cheerful and sociable lady in her early 60’s, living in Wilson. She has a mild intellectual disability and seeks an advocate to be her friend and enjoy regular social activities and outings. Jodie is an avid reader and Enid Blyton fan. Some of her paintings won awards at the “As We Are” art exhibition. Socially, Jodie likes music and dancing (adores ABBA), tenpin bowling and watching the West Coast Eagles. Coffee, chats, a bit of shopping and having a manicure are favourites too

Mia is a cheerful lady in her 40’s living in Wilson. She is seeking an advocate in her local area to be her friend and get out and about in the community with her. Mia is a sociable, friendly lady that has a love for music, dancing and meeting new people. She has a mild intellectual disability and a visual impairment which impacts her confidence when in public. Mia would appreciate her new friend helping her navigate this so she can continue to enjoy her independence.

Clarissa is a lovely 45-year-old who lives in Kelmscott with a mild intellectual disability. Clarissa could benefit with having an advocate who could assist her with general budgeting, Centrelink enquiries and just having someone who she feels she could call to have a chat with. She would benefit from having someone who could encourage and build her independence.

Darren is a cheerful and gentle man in his 50’s living in Innaloo. He has a love for gardening and spends as much time outside as possible. He enjoys country music, going on bush walks and visiting farms and national parks. He likes easy going people! He is seeking an advocate in his local area to socialise with, help him engage with his local community more and encourage him to reach his goals. Darren has a mild intellectual disability.

Citizen Advocacy seeks volunteers throughout the Perth area to be a friend and advocate to someone with an intellectual disability. You would develop a unique, one-to-one relationship, enjoying social outings and activities together. You can help advocate for someone by: • Assisting them to reach a life ambition or goal • Giving them a voice to become part of decision making and stand up for their rights • Being a mentor, offering encouragement and support to feel included and valued in societ

This type of volunteer provides a high standard of care for Seeing Eye Dogs puppies/or dogs in the volunteer’s own home as approved and agreed by Seeing Eye Dogs. The volunteer will also teach basic obedience (under the guidance of a Seeing Eye Dogs Puppy Development Trainer), house manners, eating and toileting on command, and socialise puppies in many different places (restaurants, cinemas, cafes, shopping centres, supermarkets, etc) and walking on lead in a relaxed manner.
