On Sunday 11 August Muscular Dystrophy will stage Run for Strength - a fun run/walk around Princes Park. When a natural disaster strikes or an emergency situation arises, DFES’s State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers can be found providing a wide range of volunteer services to help the community cope from the impact a disaster. This involves providing emergency repairs on buildings, to restoration of essential services and ferrying cargo and passengers across flood waters. Helping the community to recover by responding to natural disasters is only part of SES’ responsibility.

The Constable Care Safety School is working to address our children’s safety on the road and as pedestrians, come help children between 4 -12 years old learn vital safety skills. The Safety school is open Monday – Friday from 9am -1pm, where you assist children during this fun interactive program. Volunteering can be one day a week, a fortnight or month for a four-hour shift. Sadly, road trauma is a leading cause of death and serious injury in WA children, come make a difference!

The program aims to provide assistance in the form of food parcels, material aid and other services for families and individuals experiencing financial crisis. The service operates in a non-judgmental, culturally sensitive and non-discriminatory environment.

Monitor Government allocated emergency frequencies on CB radio and referral to appropriate emergency service. Attend required triathlons.

Promote RFDS and help at fundraising events. Events include market days, open gardens, raffles and occasional special events. Cooking, making savories and cakes, supper provision at old time dance once a month. Staff information and raffle ticket stalls and general assistance at events with a great team.

While the primary role of the SES is to respond to incidents involving floods and storms, it also provides crucial support and assistance to other emergency service organisations. SES is open to men and women with a reasonable degree of physical fitness and a passion to get involved within their community. When a natural disaster strikes or an emergency situation arises, DFES’s SES volunteers can be found providing a wide range of volunteer services to help the community.
