Volunteer Marine Rescue members serve their respective communities on a voluntary basis by undertaking both operational and non-operational roles. VMRS groups work in close liaison with the Western Australia Police, coordinating and performing a range of marine rescue activities for the WA community. Would you like to be Christies Sailing Clubs next Rescue Boat Officer? Do you have recent and relevant experience in boat handling? If you said yes...then please read on... Races take place on Saturday afternoons at Christies Beach during the summer season (October to April) and four Sundays during the winter season (May to September). The rescue boat is launched at the O'Sullivan Beach Marina, and is manned by two qualified volunteers.

General training is once a fortnight which involves everything needed to know on search, rescue to enhance skills. Commitment to attending training both fortnightly and over a weekend is a requirement. Able to work in a team and a able to commit to courses. Volunteer shift involves driving to pick up leftover/excess food from retailers (e.g. supermarket/bakery) and delivering it to a local charity, saving valuable food from ending up in landfill and providing immediate relief for those experiencing food insecurity. Own car required.

When a natural disaster strikes or an emergency situation arises, DFES’s State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers can be found providing a wide range of volunteer services to help the community cope from the impact a disaster. This involves providing emergency repairs on buildings, to restoration of essential services and ferrying cargo and passengers across flood waters. Helping the community to recover by responding to natural disasters is only part of SES’ responsibility.

The SES Mandurah are looking for young people to join their youth cadet program to have fun with other young people in the community, while also developing new skills and participating in exciting training opportunities.
