St John's Phone Coordinators work as part of a rostered team. While on shift, Phone Coordinators are responsible for dispatching the local volunteer ambulance crew as required. Phone Coordinators do not take 000 calls, but are contacted by the central St John's Communications Team with relevant information for incidents.

General training is once a fortnight which involves everything needed to know on search, rescue to enhance skills. Commitment to attending training both fortnightly and over a weekend is a requirement. Able to work in a team and a able to commit to courses. What about assisting with the recruitment, retention and succession planning of other trainers? When a natural disaster strikes or an emergency situation arises, DFES’s State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers can be found providing a wide range of volunteer services to help the community cope from the impact a disaster. This involves providing emergency repairs on buildings, to restoration of essential services and ferrying cargo and passengers across flood waters. Helping the community to recover by responding to natural disasters is only part of SES’ responsibility.

Promote RFDS and help at fundraising events. Events include market days, open gardens, raffles and occasional special events. Cooking, making savories and cakes, supper provision at old time dance once a month. Staff information and raffle ticket stalls and general assistance at events with a great team.

While the primary role of the SES is to respond to incidents involving floods and storms, it also provides crucial support and assistance to other emergency service organisations. SES is open to men and women with a reasonable degree of physical fitness and a passion to get involved within their community.
