Independent Person - Mildura

Young People Regular - more than 6 months Mildura VIC

About this opportunity

Do you want to make a positive contribution the youth justice system and support vulnerable young people?

YRIPP volunteers attend police interviews with young people in police custody when a parent or guardian is not available.

The Independent Person is there to compensate for the inherent disadvantage young people in police custody face when interviewed by police and clarify to them what is happening and why.

The role provides an important opportunity to support young people at a critical time and help divert those at risk of further offending. YRIPP volunteers come from all walks of life, and we look for volunteers who have good communication and social skills, who are reliable, calm and self-reflective. No specific prior experience or legal knowledge is needed, all training is provided. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.
