Surf Mentoring Team
About this opportunity
The Surf Mentor Team plays a vital part in supporting the Wave Project and as a volunteer you will be trained to work with young people in the surf, then you are matched with a young person on a 6 weeks surfing program. You get to support the participants with many high 5’s & woop woop’s.
The program meets once weekly on the weekends, usually from 9.30am - 11.30am for the 6 weeks. At each session we meet and greet the young people and assist them to get ready for their surf session. We are then met by the surf school who provide the instruction for the young people. You will also get a chance to benefit from the surf instruction if you are new to surfing.
Throughout the lesson you will have an amazing time helping young people onto their first waves and watching their progress over the weeks. We ask that you relax and have fun as your there to just encourage the young people through their surfing journey.
At the end of the session you could stay and help the surf school pack up and say goodbye to the young people, after which we have a short debrief of the day and how everyone is going.
You are joining a group of dedicated mentors and surfers. We often go out together for a social surf outside of the program and encourage you to join us. Surf Club sessions are another chance to meet with the young people from your program. It’s a great way to continue to see the progress the young people from your program are making and to mix with the other mentors from the program.
