Volunteer Tutor - Home Away From Homework Club
About this opportunity
Selection Criteria:
We are looking for tutors with good interpersonal skills, and those who are good at connecting with others. Volunteers will need to pass a Working with Children Check and a National Police Check. No tutoring experience, or experience in working with children necessary, and you don’t need to be familiar with the current curriculum. The Homework Club also welcomes those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Sessions run on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons in local libraries and community centres during school terms.
We kindly ask that you keep your attendances consistent and are able to commit for a minimum of six months.
Job Description:
The purpose of the program is to extend support and improve educational opportunities for refugee and migrant background young people and others in the local area. The role of a volunteer tutor is to be a positive and friendly adult role model, to provide assistance with problem solving, research for homework tasks, and to encourage good study habits.
