About this opportunity
This is an opportunity for you to be involved in something really worthwhile. Share your creativity with patients as you help and guide them to enjoy and express themselves creatively through a variety of art experiences. It's very rewarding when you see that you make a difference to others, and you enhance your own creativity and knowledge along the way. It's also a chance to develop planning and organisational skills around creative projects.
Boredom and lack of motivation can be an issue for patients who have a longer stay in hospital. This time will also give the patients a chance to socialise so we are looking for people who not only have some experience of creative work/hobbies, but have empathy and are comfortable engaging with older people who might be quite frail.
Collectively the team will be responsible for planning and facilitating the activities, assisting the patients to and from the art area, setting up, guiding and assisting patients to explore creative projects and tidying away at the end and. You are well supported by the Volunteer Coordinator who liaises with patients and staff in preparation of the sessions
Comprehensive orientation to the hospital and ward environment will be provided along with full support from the Volunteer Coordinator as you settle into the team and your role.
